Tell me a bit about your background, where you're from etc, anything from your background that defines you as an artist or your music
Born of African-Caribbean descent in London, Siah (aged 24) is a rapper/singer songwriter with early influences from UK Rap, Grime, American Hip Hop, Jazz, R&B & Alternate Rap. He’s Spent most of his life in South London and has always taken a liking to music throughout his early years. Siah was aged 15 when he started surrounding himself amongst creative friends, which aided him to truly discover his love for music and his talent for writing.
Why did you get into music? And what are you interests/hobbies outside of music?
Siah began writing raps for fun, as freestyling was his introduction to writing. Hooked on his newfound passion, he became heavily connected to music, making it his primary active hobby alongside football. Once he started college at 16, he studied sports science. At this point he quickly gained popularity on social media and amongst his peers for his impromptu freestyles and whitty lyrical content.
Siah continued his education and football journey until age 19 he faced multiple injuries, which led to him taking time off football. He realigned his focus solely on music, and at this point his social media grew. This helped him realise that music could become a successful career for him. In early 2019, Siah consistently posted freestyles in his series “Freestyle Thursdays” bringing huge attention from social media, industry, and public support with freestyles consistently going viral. Siah took a year to study the industry through a music management course and through this, he built connections and finally was ready to officially release songs. Finding the right producers and studios to capture his desired sound wasn’t the smoothest journey but after navigating through the industry, he finally found his manager and golden team of producers who he began creating his catalogue with. Not only has he put in the hours in the studio, but has also spent hours learning the music business. His new found knowledge led him to set up a small team. Which has ushered him to take the industry by storm with talented, fresh, new ideas and a plan of consistency no one can ignore.
What has been a memorable moment for yourself on this journey?
It all began with his first official independent release in September 2020, G.A.M.E (Giving All My Energy). G.A.M.E was picked up by several radio stations, across the globe from Europe to Africa. With momentum building, Siah launched his next single, Messi in January 2021 and has since released singles consistently to see him through the year.
In 2022 - Siah has delivered an exceptional barrage of releases. Starting with the high end production “Ain’t Stopping” directed by Lucrecia Taormina (Bree Runway, Missy Elliot - A.T.M) Then moving on to collaborate with Plusminusequals for the 6th release “Juice” a Manchester based platform.
After a solid start to the year Siah brought together a live band to help him create visuals for the 3rd release of the year “Cheque” which features an amazing vocalist. Now in 2023 - he has started the year with an absolute banger ‘Ofcourse’.
What obstacles have you faced within music or within yourself and have had to overcome in order to grow as an artist?
Siah is a fusion of sounds, inspired by his upbringing with UK Rap, Grime, American Hip Hop, Jazz, R&B & Alternate Rap. It’s this trait and his out of the box disciplined mindset that makes him stand out from the crowd. He embraces versatility in his sound, embedding his hard hitting bars and rich flows in his different beat choices. The new direction we need in the UK music scene, but that's the hard part. It seems as if the UK scene isn’t looking for this genre morphing music sometimes and sometimes it gives us hope with opportunities like yourselves.
If we had to descirbe Siah in 3 words, what would those words be?
Nonchalant, caring, go getter!
